Manifesto

Trauma does not get to write the ending.

What happened is part of our story. It does not own our future. We believe every person deserves a future they can imagine, choose, and move toward.

01

We refuse to accept

that surviving is the finish line.

that the only way forward has to begin by going backward.

that there is one doorway into recovery, and everyone has to be ready to walk through it.

that distance, language, cost or stigma should decide who gets a chance.

that technology built for people at their most vulnerable should be measured by how long it holds their attention.

that hopelessness is a failure of will.

02

We believe the future can become available again.

Trauma narrows what a person can picture. When the future is hard to imagine, choice gets smaller, and so does the sense that any of it is yours to decide. We believe that narrowing can be worked on directly, not by explaining someone's past back to them, but by making the future large enough to look at again.

People are more than what happened to them.

Hope is not a mood. It is a capacity, and capacities can be built.

Recovery should hand agency back, not stand in for it.

The stories a person can imagine shape the futures they can move toward.

Evidence matters most where the stakes are human.

03

The first move belongs to the person.

We call the people who use MyWhatIf Heroes. Not because recovery is a performance, and not because anyone should have to be strong on schedule. They are not here to be fixed. They are here to take an active role in what comes next. The Hero is the protagonist, never the product.

04

There is more than one way into recovery.

Some people start with a clinician. Some start with a friend, a community or a faith. Some start alone at two in the morning with a question they have never said out loud. None of those is the wrong beginning, and none of them cancels the others. MyWhatIf exists to be one more way in, in a person's own language, on their own terms.

Meet people where they are.

Which is a design instruction before it is a value. It decides what we build, who we build with, and which places we go next.

AI is not the point. People are.

We use it because personalization and reach are how a structured intervention gets to someone who would otherwise never be offered one. It is infrastructure. What happens to the person is the mission.

05

We should be willing to use what we build.

MyWhatIf was built close to home. For ourselves, for our families, for our friends, for our communities. That changes the standard. The question is not only whether we can build something. It is whether we would trust it with someone we love.

The product serves the mission, not the other way around.

We built a foundation so that stays true after the funding, the technology and the people have all changed.

06

Belief is where we start. Evidence decides what survives.

We are building something we think could matter, which is exactly why we are willing to test it, measure it, publish what it shows, and drop whatever does not hold up. Conviction is not certainty. We would rather find out we were wrong than be careful never to check.

07

Recovery is personal. It does not have to be solitary.

Humans need humans. A future is easier to hold when someone else can see it too. Heroes helping Heroes, peers who show up, communities carrying a question together: that is the direction the work moves in.

Hope without a next step is not enough.

Feeling briefly inspired changes nothing on its own. Possibility has to become agency, and agency has to become movement in the actual world.

08

A person is more than their worst day.

Symptom scores measure something real, and they do not measure everything. Hope, agency and purpose are constructs we can study. Dignity is a value we hold ourselves to. We keep the difference visible rather than blurring one into the other.

The ambition is not a better app.

We are working toward recovery that reaches people where they already are.

Toward more than one credible pathway in.

Toward real evidence for interventions built on future possibility.

Toward technology that arrives with human connection attached.

Toward recovery that a community can carry, not only a clinic.

Recovery ripples.

A person who finds a future again returns differently to the people around them. One future becoming possible is rarely one life.

A family
A friendship
A classroom
A workplace
A unit
A community
09

We is a wider word than our staff.

Heroes, and the people who love them. Clinicians and researchers who ask the hard questions. Builders, funders, translators, volunteers, institutions, neighbors. Anyone who does not accept that trauma gets the final word.

This mission has room for you.

10

Our What If is bigger than MyWhatIf.

What if hope could be strengthened on purpose?

What if recovery could begin before someone was ready to call it therapy?

What if help arrived in a person's own language, wherever they were?

What if technology brought more humanity into recovery, not less?

What if a Hero who found a way forward could help another Hero find theirs?

What if recovery moved through families and communities the way harm does?

What if every person who survives trauma could still imagine a future worth moving toward?

Everything we are building starts in the same place. With a person who is not done yet. And a question.

What if?
